Microcomputer Applications


The Directorate of ICT offers short course on Microcomputer Applications. The course is designed to provide the participants with skills and knowledge of computers such as overview of microcomputer systems, basic concepts of hardware, software, local area networks, Internet & E-mails and issues of computer security. Participants will have hands-on exposure to the latest commonly used Microsoft Application Software such as the Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Publisher and the Internet browser. To maximize skill levels, extensive use of PC lab for practical is adopted with each participant given access to a computer.


The aim for this course is to equip participants with competences and skills on how to handle and use a computer for file management; use of office application software, for information processing; and the use of the Internet and E-mail services for information searching and communication.


At the end of the course participants shall be able to:

  • Explain basic computer concepts and terminologies
  • Identify and differentiate between input and output devices
  • Set up a Personal Computer (PC)
  • Work with Microsoft Windows for file management
  • Work with Microsoft Word processor functions
  • Work with Microsoft Spreadsheet and Presentation functions
  • Use Microsoft Publisher to design different types of publications such as invitation and business cards, envelops etc.
  • Use Internet and Email including how to create accounts, send and receive emails.
  • Use search engines such as google.com or yahoo.com for information retrieval

ELIGIBILITY – Who Can Attend?

The course targets individuals interested in acquiring skills on the Use of Computers, Office Application Software and Internet and Emails from both public as well as private sectors. As a bonus the participants will be oriented on the general maintenance of computers, computer security and how to procure a new computer with good specifications.


The course will involve brief lectures, extensive hands-on laboratory exercises, presentations, discussions and demonstrations.


The course duration is 4 weeks. Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday for two hours starting from 17:00pm to 19:00pm at Computer Training Laboratory, MUHAS Campus.


Application forms can be collected from the Director’s Office, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) – MUHAS or it can be downloaded from the website.


The course fees is Two Hundred Thousands Tanzania Shillings (TSH 200,000/=) per participant. All Payments should be done in full and should be paid at least one week before the course starts.

You can pay directly to MUHAS Accounts Department and submit a copy of the receipt to the Director’s office (ICT) or through the National Micro-Finance Bank (NMB), Muhimbili Branch, MUHAS Bank Account Number: 20901100002 and submit your original bank deposit slip to Accounts Office and a copy to the ICT Director’s Office for registration.


Upon satisfactory completion of the course requirements and a minimum of 90% attendance, participants will be issued with Certificate of Completion.
